Add an appropriate amount of water, boil until the color turns light red, and it is ready.

Warm Tips:

  • For people who are cold and afraid of cold, you can add a few Sichuan peppercorns to make “Sichuan Pepper Ginger Jujube Tea,” which has an even better effect of dispelling cold and warming the body.

  • You can also add some honey to ginger jujube tea, which has a very good moistening effect on the lungs. But make sure to add the honey when the tea is warm, not hot.

  • Do not peel the ginger, and do not use too little. The brewed tea should taste a little spicy.

Guo An Tang TCM Herbal Tips

Summer Solstice marks the time of year when the sunlight is the most intense. Yang energy in summer reaches its peak, and when Yang reaches its extreme, Yin begins. Within the heat, cold energy starts to arise. At this time, it is suitable to appropriately strengthen the body’s Yang energy, in order to drive away the newly born cold energy.

Ginger Jujube Tea is a Yang-tonifying tea suitable for summer. Ginger is pungent and warm in nature, while jujube is sweet and warm in nature. One pungent, one sweet—they combine to transform Yin. Drinking ginger jujube tea often can both replenish Yang deficiency inside the body to warm and nourish the spleen and stomach, and also help Yang energy to disperse, so as to expel cold and dampness.

The subtlety of using ginger and jujube together lies here: ginger mainly disperses, but with jujube it will not scatter excessively; jujube mainly preserves, but with ginger it will not preserve excessively. Moreover, ginger is warm and dry, which suits the spleen’s preference for dryness; jujube is gentle and moist, which suits the stomach’s preference for moisture. When combined, ginger and jujube regulate spleen and stomach to harmonize the interior.

It is recommended to drink it in the morning, and try to avoid drinking at night. This is because at night, Yang energy should collect and settle inward, while ginger has a dispersing and upward-moving force. Drinking ginger jujube tea at night may cause irritability or insomnia.

Don’t make these mistakes — or you could make your condition worse!

  • Never do moxibustion in an air-conditioned room. Your body opens up during treatment. Cold air can sneak in and cause worse issues.

  • Morning is the best time. The heat is gentler, and it helps uplift your body’s yang energy for the day.

  • Avoid going out immediately after. Let your body cool down naturally and wear proper clothing.

  • If done at night, ensure it doesn’t interfere with your sleep, and always switch off the air-con before you start.
